Dia de los Muertos Exhibition
Day of the Dead is two days, where you celebrate the dead. It is a celebration where people come together, make alters for their dead loved one, eat, dance and cherish the deceased. The event is held on November first and second and originated in Mexico. It is now celebrated everywhere!
For my ofrenda (alter) I chose to do my dog, Mojo. She was found on the Navajo Reservation around one year before I was born, then I had her my whole life until about two years ago. For her alter I painted a picture with her in it, I made a sugar skull, (as a decoration) I made marigold flowers, (their smell and color brings in the spirits) and I brought in a small tree. When she died, we buried her on a mountain so we brought a small tree we had planted in a pot, and planted it with her.
Overall, I think the exhibition was a success, mostly because not only did it feel like an exhibition, but it felt like a party, just like it would if we were doing this celebration for real.

Description:
1. I liked the fictional stories that were about how the stars are here or why the grass is green so I thought that it would be a cute idea to do one on how the sun and moon got into the sky.
2. We are writing books to give to rural areas in Nicaragua because in these communities many of the children don't have access to books and often don't have access to school. We are sending our books to Nicaragua through the organization, Seeds of Learning. They will give all of the books my class and I wrote to all the children.
3. Because there isn't much of a lesson or moral, I just really hope that the children like the story.
